This 1986 prototype of what would eventually show itself as "A Piddle Diddle Disneyland" in the 1990s is rough and tumble by comparison, but an incredibly fun time across all three hours. The Universal Media Netweb is having a "family night" at Disneyland from midnight to 3am. Dickie Diamond and Peter Diddle are taking in broadcasts from throughout the park, with contributions by Larry King, Minerva and the Moonbeams, and many different receptacles. Ronald Redball drops spectacular bulletins throughout the night, while Peter and Dickie lose control. Mickey and Goofy are not their regular selves.
Above all, the show is a great tour through an audio landscape of some shadow-world version of Disneyland, with classic songs (sometimes as Disco versions), bootleg ambient audio, and a progressive march through Frontierland, Fantasyland, Adventureland, Tomorrowland, and ultimately Negativland. Negativland music from "Project EFN" (what would become 1987's "Escape from Noise") appears in a concert held on Disneyland grounds, including a differently mixed version of "Christianity is Stupid" from what was on the final album. A round of pumpkin carols, a lost girl with three eyes, Macho Duck, jammed brakes and a surprise drug test round out the landscape. By the time the Beach Boys' "Disney Girls" plays, we've lost communication to the tower. Is there any escape? -- Jason Scott

Just a note for OTE extremists...
This was the first time Ronald Redball appeared on OTE. The name was created in a panic moment when Peter Diddle asked the name of the cub reporter. Legend has it that a much better name had been thought of, but in the stage fright and suddenness of the moment Redball is what was blurted out. And thus was a great supporting character created.

How confusing this must have been
On listening to this show it struck me how disorientating it must have been if you didn't realise what was actually going on. Dickie Diamond and Peter Diddle reporting live from Disneyland, Larry King seems to be involved too, plus Ronald Redball phoning in live updates whilst dragging a vast amount of UMN audio equipment around the amusement park. Live coverage of a Negativland gig from within the park -- Christianity is Stupid plus another surprise number. Or was it just two guys in a studio in Berkeley goofing around? Clear enough if you're a regular listener, but imagine what people stumbling upon this by accident would have thought.

Round 1 with the mouse (?)
My first OTE show I ordered was ‘A Piddle Diddle Disneyland’ from 1993, so it was a bit of a revelation to see this show from 1986. It seems that ‘Piddle/Diddle’ is not the first time there was a collision of both of these lands and worlds.
This episode is much looser. It meanders through the park with some help of that ‘Receptacle Programming’ that Disney would not have liked…being the control freak that he was. Your hosts Dickie Diamond and the per-drug-casualty Peter Diddle causally visits each of the lands with help from calls from on-site reporters, with Minerva & The Moonbeams and Negativland as your musical entertainment.
….and that’s all you really need to know, though I will have to give you a small warning: if you are allergic to the public performance of ‘Mickey Mouse Disco’, you might want to take your medication before pressing the play button here. Count your blessings that there wasn’t a Tron disco album, ya cry baby!!
